A sculptural jiaotai pixiu (貔貅) in red, black, and cream marbled cane — the mythical winged lion of Chinese tradition, an auspicious symbol of protection and good fortune.

About this piece
A sculptural jiaotai porcelain pixiu (貔貅) — the mythical winged lion of Chinese tradition — in marbled cane of red, black, and cream. The pixiu is a classical auspicious creature symbolising wealth, protection, and good fortune.
The form is built up by hand from multiple coloured clay bodies, twisted into a cane, sliced, and reassembled around the sculptural body — the marbled pattern runs through the piece from the inside out, just as it does in every Wenxian Jiaotai vase.
Each piece is unique. The work is signed by Li Wenxian.
